在联合国教科文组织和国际地质科学联合会的大力支持下，“第二届国际地质公园发展研讨会——环境保护与教育”将于2007年6月12日～15日在中国江西庐山举行。本届研讨会由庐山世界地质公园管理委员会、中国地质科学院和中国地质学会共同承办，旨在促进世界地质公园的合作和研究，促进各国家、各地区地质公园的联系，使全球世界地质公园网络发挥更大的作用。
庐山世界地质公园，作为首批世界地质公园之一，严格按照世界地质公园网络的要求，开展科学研究和普及，进行认真的建设，吸引了越来越多的科学旅游、知识旅游、环境旅游、生态旅游的爱好者，推动了地方经济的快速发展，大力推动国际合作，在全球地质遗产保护的研究工作中发挥了十分重要的作用。
2006年5月15日～18日，在中国云台山世界地质公园的大力支持下，“第一届国际地质公园发展研讨会”在中国河南省焦作市召开。来自15个国家210余位代表参加了会议。联合国教科文组织、国际地质科学联合会的主要领导也出席了大会。大会共收到论文56篇。大会交流和野外考察取得了巨大成功。
较之上届研讨会，本届研讨会已有来自19个国家和地区的300余位代表报名参会，代表的国家、地区和公园数量有较大增加，论文数量和科研质量有明显提高，可以预料，这次大会定能获得极大的成功。 庐山世界地质公园的过去、现在和未来
