  Jonathan and Martha are two lonely works that live on oppositesides of a tree. One day, a big juicy pear lands on the groundbetween them. Jonathan nibbles from the left, and Martha from theright - and soon they are caught in a tangle. Using his signaturestyle of eye-catching illustration and collage and simplenarrative, Horacek weave together a story that captures the essenceof friendship. Described as 'the thinking tot's EricCarle' Petr Horacek was born in the Czech Republic and studied at the Academyof Fine Art in Prague. His first books, Strawberries are Red and What is Blackand White?, received the Books for Children Newcomer Award 2001 - the lastrecipient of this award. Since then he has written and illustrated numerousbooks and received many awards, including Picture Book of the Year 2008 inHolland for A New House for Mouse. Silly Suzy Goose was also on the 10 bookshortlist of the award. A New House for Mouse has also been selected for the2008 Book Start pack which will distribute 150,000 copies to new parentsthroughout the U.K. Butterfly, Butterfly was listed first in the Sunday Timeslist of summer reading in the 0-3 category, July 1st 2007.

Petr was born in the Czech Republic and studied at the Academyof Fine Art in Prague. His first book received the Books forChildren Newcomer Award. Petr has published more than twenty-fivebooks for children under 5, and has won numerous awards includingPicture Book of the Year in 2006, and 2008, Parenting Book of theYear Award (USA) among others.
