Roosevelt “Rosy” Sullivan is a twelve-year-old daydreamer from southern Kentucky. Desperate to fulfill a family legacy, the boy tunnels his way through the earth, via an abandoned coal mine. Finding himself in a strange land, his courage and non-reliance on others is tested against an unfamiliar culture and language.
Li Mei, a young Chinese girl from a small, remote mountain village is eleven going on fifty. Feeling abandoned and mourning the loss of her mother, a reoccurring dream and its azaleas lead her to an escape, in an attempt to rediscover forgotten joy. Through unusual circumstance, Li Mei passes through the earth and falls into Rosy’s world.

He is a published author with Hello, Rice, I’m Hamburger (Zhejiang University Press, 2017), which depicts China through the eyes of a foreigner. With a background in psychology, living in China for over ten years, directly working with children in the field of education, and as a former social worker in the USA, focusing on at-risk teens, he has been able to retain a child’s sense of wonderment. Kevin eventually was successful in his digging and currently resides with his wife in Shanghai, China.
