TheInternationalUnionofAnthropologicalandEthnologicalSciences（IUAES）wasestablishedonAugust23，1948，whenitmerged，infact，withtheInternationalCongressofAnthropologicalandEthnologicalSciences（ICAES），whichwasfoundedin1934.ThelatterwastheproductofvariousCongressesofAnthropologicalSciences，startingin1865.
TheIUAESisoneofthememberorganizationsoftheInternationalSocialScienceCouncil（ISSC）andalsooftheInternationalCouncilforPhilosophyandHumanisticStudies（ICPHS）.TheIUAESisalsoamemberoftheInternationalCouncilofScientificUnions（ICSU）.Itsaimistoenhanceexchangeandcommunicationamongscholarsofallregionsoftheworld，inacollectiveefforttoexpandhumanknowledge.Inthisway，ithopestocontributetoabetterunderstandingofhumansociety，andtoasustainablefuturebasedonharmonybetweennatureandculture.TheIUAESoncenotedadraftstatementonthefutureofworldanthropologyin“CurrentAnthropology”（1979）:“Thescopeofanthropologyintermsofareasofhumaninterestincludessuchcriticalissuesofthecontemporaryworldasproblemsofenvironmentalmanagement，pressurefortheprogressivereductionofdisparitiesandtherestructuringoftheworldorder，thefutureofthenation-state，ethnicpluralismandthefutureofnationalsociety，andtheharmonizationoftherolesandfunctionsofinstitutionswiththebasicandderivedbiologicalandpsychicdrivesofman.”TheIUAESitselfconsistsofnationalandinstitutionalorganizationsinmorethan50countriesinallpartsoftheworld，andalsoincludessomehundredsofindividualmembers.TheresearcheffortandinvolvementoftheIUAESisprincipallyarrangedbyitsscientificcommissions，ofwhich，currently，therearetwenty-seven，andeachofwhichconcentratesonsomeareasofanthropologicalinterest.Theyincludedethnicrelations，agingandtheaged，women，children，youth，migration，epidemiologyandAids，tourism，primatology，linguistics，andsoon. 1.Introduction
